Artwork Explained: World Serpent

Artwork Explained: World Serpent

This week we are dropping the exciting and highly anticipated Norse inspired World Serpent apparel range designed by the super talented Pyros!

We love to make designs that our audience ask for and we had quite a few requests for a design based on the Serpent of Midgard, Jörmungandr and today we are so excited to introduce this collection to you! Let's explore the Norse character who inspired this collection below.

Jörmungandr is the world serpent who encircles Midgard in Norse Mythology. He is the son of the Norse trickster God, Loki and the giantess, Angrboda. He is also the brother of Fenrir and Hel and it is said that at the Ragnarök, he slays and is slain by the God of thunder, Thor.

Fenrir and his other monstrous siblings resided with their mother, Angrboda in Jotunheim, which is the realm of the giants in Norse Mythology, until the Gods in Asgard received the prophecy of the destruction they were destined to bestow and Odin, the chief Aesir God decided to remove them while they were still young in order to prevent them from causing their future destruction.

Odin threw Jörmungandr into the sea, sent Hel to rule the realm of the dead Niflheim and finally bound Fenrir. It is said that Jörmungandr grew so big that he encircled the entire world and held his tail in his mouth.

It was prophesied that during the Ragnarök, Jörmungandr and his siblings would break free from their captivity in order to join the forces of destruction in the ultimate battle against the gods and their army.

We hope you love this range as much as we do!
