Artwork Explained: Vegvisir

Artwork Explained: Vegvisir

This week we will be unveiling and celebrating our exciting new Limited Edition collection, the Icelandic sigil inspired Vegvisir apparel range. This design is awe inspiring, captivating and extremely detailed. Let's explore the meaning and the story behind this week's work of wearable art.

The Vegvisir is a symbol that was described in the book of Icelandic spells which was called the Huld manuscript. The only true explanation given for this symbol is “If this sign is carried, one will never lose one’s way in storms or bad weather, even when the way is not known.”

There is no factual evidence that the Vegvisir symbol was made use of during the time of the Vikings. Although it is certainly possible that it was used during this time.

This apparel range features a Vegvisir depicted over the heart of the wearer and also on the back of the hoodies of this collection. There are also Icelandic "maps' ' depicted in the artwork which depicts the relation between this magical stave and finding one's way at sea. This magical apparel range is in a gold and sea blue colorway which represents the ocean.

Learn a little more about the artist below:

"I am extremely fascinated with culture, history, art and occult symbolism and their relationship with art. It was this fascination and passion that drove me to studying theology and also fine art. I make sure that every work of art that I create is inspired by a mythological story, character or symbol that intrigues and inspires me.

I spend most of my time researching and planning designs through reading mythological history books and articles in order to understand the story from many different perspectives and create art that brings the story to life.

I consider myself a unique person with a complex personality. I meditate, read tarot cards, observe science, and read lots of books.  I try to make sure that the person observing my art feels this complex personality, and understand my vision and unique perspective.I also try to take my obsession with ancient art and revive them with a fresh look that is still historically correct to create something that we can all appreciate."- Pyros

We hope you love this range just as much as we do.
