Artwork Explained: The Uraeus

Artwork Explained: The Uraeus

This week we launched the brand new Egyptian inspired, Uraeus collection. This artwork is a firm favourite among the team and we are exceptionally proud to introduce this collection to you, our Lunafide family! The artist did an exquisite job on creating this artwork and put an immense amount of detail into the design as well as into the Colorway. The Colorway is inspired by two of the main Egyptian colors including, Blue and Yellow Gold or better known to the ancient Egyptians as khesbedj and khenet, making this Regal design fit for Royalty.

We have always been fascinated with ancient Egyptian art and history and we love to celebrate and remember a fascinating time in history through our Egyptian inspired art and designs. Be sure to check out some of our other Egyptian inspired designs including the Horus collection, the Aset collection, the Anubis and Bastet collection and now the brand new Uraeus collection. Discover the deeper meaning behind the Uraeus artwork below.

The Uraeus is the stylized, upright form of an Egyptian cobra, which is used as a symbol of sovereignty, royalty and divine authority in ancient Egypt. The Uraeus can be seen featured in the middle of the Chest area in this collection.  On the sleeves of the garments in this collection, a depiction of Queen Aset who was the Goddess of magic, fertility and motherhood, healing and rebirth as well as death can be seen. Queen Aset interestingly was also the mother of Horus and Min.

On the back of the garments in this collection a depiction of a Scarab beetle can be seen, the meaning of this beetle in Ancient Egyptian culture was as a symbol of immortality, resurrection, transformation and protection. Above this beetle is a depiction of the eye of Horus which in ancient Egyptian culture is a symbol of protection, royal power, and good health. Finally the background of the artwork on the garments is decorated with Hieroglyphics, giving the range that finishing touch and bringing everything together.

We really hope you love this mesmerising design just as much as we do! Check out the range at https://lunafide.com/collections/uraes and get your Ancient Egyptian style now! There really is just so much to discover in the fine details of this design.
