Artwork Explained: Sleipnir

This week we launched the majestic, Norse inspired Sleipnir apparel range. This range is inspired by the mighty eight legged Equine offspring of Loki and Odin's chosen companion and transport method into battle and when crossing the nine realms. The artist Michael Canada creatively brought a magical story to life throughout the artworks lovingly printed onto this apparel range.

Sleipnir was born when the giant trickster God Loki shape shifted himself into a mare and gave birth to a foul. The sire of this foul was a stallion who belonged to a giant, as recounted in the story of the Fortification of Asgard. Sleipnir grew up to be the most powerful and strongest steed recounted in Norse mythology and much like Loki's other children including the giant wolf, Fenrir was adopted by Odin and included in the pack of Odin's extraordinary creatures including, Huginn and Muninn the Raven's and Geri and Freki the wolves. Odin being a warrior God entered battles and when he did, he would ride into battle on the back of the eight legged, Sleipnir. Odin would also ride on Sleipnir's back when visiting the nine realms.

On the front of the hoodies, shirts and sweaters and of the leg of the shorts, there is a motif of the giant eight legged steed in all his glory, showing his might and power by jumping up onto his four hind legs, with his four front hoofs extended, surrounded by a background of Norse patterns and designs depicting Asgard. On the sleeves of the tops and on the legs of the boardshorts, leggings and joggers you will find a depiction of the all father and King of the Aesir intertwined with old Norse ruins, the serpent and another child of Loki, Jormungandr and his beloved ravens Huginn and Muninn.

On the back of the Hoodies, sweatshirts and shirts you will find a depiction of the staircase to the majestic, enormous hall located in Asgard, Valhalla. This artwork pieces together beautifully to tell a tale of daily life in Asgard for Odin, riding on his mighty steed to Valhalla surrounded by his favourite creatures while looking out over all the happenings of the nine realms.

We hope you love this design just as much as we do!
