Artwork Explained: Sea Beast

Artwork Explained: Sea Beast

This week we dropped the incredible Kraken inspired Sea Beast apparel range. Sea monster's have a prominent role in myths and legends of most seafaring cultures on Earth and with such inspiring biodiversity in our oceans, it's not difficult to see why.

The Kraken is a large sea monster which was almost always depicted as a massive octopus or squid-like creature with eight tentacles, originating in Nordic folklore. The Kraken was said to terrorise the seas from Norway, Iceland and Greenland.

The Kraken had a particular knack for destroying ships and many say that it would attack the vessels with its massive tentacles. Sometimes the massive beast would even swim in circles and suck ships down under the depths.

The monster was said to be able to devour an entire ship's crew at once. Although the monster was terrifying and had a taste for human flesh it did also bring massive schools of fish which brave fishermen could benefit from.

This work of wearable art was created by the talent Pyros, Learn more about him below.

I am extremely fascinated with culture, history, art and occult symbolism and their relationship with art. It was this fascination and passion that drove me to studying theology and also fine art. I make sure that every work of art that I create is inspired by a mythological story, character or symbol that intrigues and inspires me. I spend most of my time researching and planning designs through reading mythological history books and articles in order to understand the story from many different perspectives and create art that brings the story to life. I consider myself a unique person with a complex personality.

We hope you love this range as much as we do!
