Artwork Explained: Moon Magic

Artwork Explained: Moon Magic

Introducing this week's drop the Moon Magic Apparel Range, designed by the super talented @Artofkarolmichalec. Let's take a deeper look into the artist and inspiration behind this week's wearable work of art.

"My work often includes decorative patterns calling back to eras of humanity's greatest societies - ancient, mysterious, mythical and rich in not just visual language but secrecy. Spells, knotwork, magical symbols and runes being some of the elements I reach for; creating a visual feast that's highly elaborate and intricate. A single drawing can take days to finish!" -Karol

The Moon has always been associated with Magic and mysticism, across various cultures and traditions since the beginning of time. It's believed that the Sun is unquestionably important and relates to rationality and basic needed function whereas the Moon is connected to intuition, change, fluidity, reflection and also relates to the element water.

The power of the Moon is undeniable it is witnessed in changing tides, dreams and human bodily cycles. In Wiccan tradition the moon is also believed to further enhance magical activities.

Wiccan magic and rituals are approached according to the principle of ‘sympathy’ and that like-attracts-like. This means the timing of rituals should be in tune with the energies of the Earth and how it shifts and moves in relation to the moon and also the zodiac signs.

Luna moths are also very symbolic and sacred in moon magic and signify new beginnings as they represent a continuing quest for truth and knowledge, the gift of intuition, psychic perception and heightened awareness and are always seeking the light.

It is all these elements that brought this design together to illustrate and represent Moon Magic as a whole in this whimsical design.

We hope you love this range as much as we do!
